Immigrating to Canada under the Spousal Sponsorship Program allows Canadian citizens or permanent residents to apply and sponsor their spouses to live, work, and enjoy the welfare policies of Canada.
Requirements for the Sponsor Under the Spousal Sponsorship
- Be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
- Already have Canadian citizenship or be a permanent resident living and working in Canada.
- Meet the health requirements and comply with Canadian law.
- To ensure sponsorship ability, the recommended income level in the last year should meet the minimum income standard (LICO) set by Immigration Canada.
- Commit to financially support the sponsored person for at least three years from the date the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident in Canada.
- Not be entitled to sponsor others for at least five years from the date the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.


Requirements for the Sponsored Person Under the Spousal Sponsorship
- Be 18 years of age or older at the time of application.
- Be a lawful spouse (registered marriage) or a person living with the sponsor as a spouse for at least one year (temporarily referred to as a Common-Law Partner).
- The dependent child must be under the age of 22, unmarried, and a child of the sponsor and the sponsored person, or a stepchild of the sponsor’s spouse or common-law partner.

Costs to Sponsor Under
Spousal Immigration
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) advises applicants to pay all fees in full before the sponsored person becomes a permanent resident.
The cost of sponsoring Canadian immigration under the spousal category includes:

Biometric fee
For families with two or more people, the maximum biometric fee is 170 CAD.
Note: Fees are submitted online via IRCC’s website. Applicants must print the fee payment confirmation and submit it together with the immigration application.
Sponsor Parents and Grandparents
The Parent Sponsorship Program is an initiative by the Canadian government to give Canadian citizens and permanent residents over the age of 18 the opportunity to sponsor their parents to come to Canada.
Conditions to Sponsor Parents
Aged 18 years and older.
The applicant must have met the minimum income requirement for three consecutive years.
The sponsor needs to provide financial support for basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, and necessities for daily living).
In terms of health, the sponsor must provide support for dental, eye, and other healthcare services that are not covered by the government.
The sponsor agrees not to ask for subsidies from the government. If the sponsor receives a subsidy from the government, the sponsor is responsible for repaying the portion received.
Dependent children of the sponsor: Whether immigrating to Canada or not, dependent children are still required to declare their information on the parent sponsorship application and provide relevant documents to submit with the sponsorship application.
Sponsor Your Children
Canadian citizens or permanent residents can sponsor their children (adopted or biological) to become permanent residents in Canada under the following conditions:
Conditions of the Sponsor
The sponsor is at least 18 years old.
The relationship between the sponsor and the child is genuine.
The sponsor is required to sign a Guarantee Commitment to provide financial support for the minimum needs of the sponsored person and any dependent children.
The sponsor must provide financial support for basic needs (food, clothing, shelter, and necessities for daily living).

Conditions of the Sponsored Person
Must be single.
Must be under 22 years old at the time of application and financially dependent on the sponsor.
If the sponsored person is over 22 years old at the time of application, the applicant must demonstrate financial dependency on the sponsor or show that they are physically or mentally disabled.
